Statement of Attainment (SOA)
This Statement is issued to a student who has successfully completed one or more units of competency on meeting the prerequisite requirements.

This skill set is appropriate for people who need to meet their responsibilities as required by AS/ NZS 3000:2018. The HAC units provide competencies to plan and design installation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas (EEHA) to in line with clause 2.15 and 2.16 of AS/NZS 4761.1:2018 and AS/NZS 60079.10.1 and AS/NZS 60079.10.2. The design unit provides competency and associated assessment requirements is adopted from clause 2.13 of AS/NZS 4761.1:2018. This design part of the course is intended for electrical and instrumentation designers working in hazardous area industries. It focuses on equipment selection and installation design and documentation, including intrinsically safe system verification and maximum power dissipation calculations for increased safety installations.

HAC units apply to personnel involved in the front-end engineering and design (FEED) scopes for facilities that may contain or flammable gas/ vapour hazards or explosive dust atmospheres and combustible dust layers hazards, as well as those persons involved in the ongoing operations, maintenance and/or modification of these same facilities, during the facility life cycle.

PRE-REQUISITE

A candidate seeking assessment in this skill set shall have been deemed competent to gather and analyse technical data in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline at AQF level 7 or equivalent. For the design part of the course, candidates must be able to design general electrical and control system installations at AQF level 6 or equivalent.

You will undergo theory and hands on practical training with qualified industry experienced trainers who are all currently practicing in the chemical, mineral processing and oil and gas facility. The course covers the following topics:

• Properties of explosive gases/vapours and combustible dusts
• Hazardous area classification (HAC) procedures and techniques for gas and combustible dusts atmospheres
• Recommended methods for documenting the HAC
• Protection techniques and Equipment selection
• General design principles
• Earthing requirements
• EX i entity calculations
• EX e motor protection and cable derating requirements
• Maximum dissipated power calculations
• Hazardous area classification project for gas and dust atmospheres

PMV offers a small size class with flexible training to accommodate difficult rosters / work schedules.

Blended delivery of 40% theory and 60% practical training in a range of activities including some group classification and design work that you are likely to see in a typical industrial installation with electrical equipment in hazardous areas (EEHA).
